Spiders are a diverse group of arthropods that can be found all over the world. Some species are extremely small, while others, such as the tarantula, are extremely large. Although most house spiders are harmless, two common venomous types in North Alabama and Tennessee are widow spiders and brown recluse spiders. Spiders are voracious predators that eat insects, other spiders, and even small mammals and reptiles meaning that if there are spiders in your home, it is a sign that there are other insects.

Some spiders may be found outdoors in piles of firewood and debris, under items lying on the ground, or in voids in hollow blocks, while others may be found in attics, crawl spaces, and other areas throughout the house.
